'A Political Force' to Protect Against Corruption

Corporate Counsel
Donziger contemplates hiring a group of protesters and monitors to "protect the court" from corruption and "to prevent Texaco from breaking the law." Among other things, Donziger calls it "a political force that the judges can see." Chevron prefers Donziger's use of the term "private army," but plaintiffs say it's clear that this phrase was a joke. Donziger replies that it can't be subpoenaed in Ecuador.
