    No doubt word processing and related technical skills are critical, but I don't think that's why most people go to law school or frankly what companies are looking for from their trusted advisors. The fundamental problem is that the entire structure underlying law firms as businesses (hourly billing) has caused their clients to focus on such things rather than on how lawyers deliver value-based, process-focused advice. Who cares how long it takes them to type a document, if you get the value you're after for the price you want to pay them? Their inefficiencies are really their problem if you're not paying for them. To me, the real issue from a tech standpoint is how are lawyers using cloud-based technologies and advanced processes to help clients see around the curve to mitigate and eliminate risk -- which is at the end of the day really what we think we're paying them to do. For the most part their practices haven't adapted to incorporate the many tools that are needed to address systemic risk issues. It's like they're using a manual typewriter and carbon paper and addressing issues in long form because that's what they've always done.
